At the CES 2022 exhibition, AMD shared a lot of information about the next-generation Zen 4 architecture processor code-named Raphael, and the new AM5 socket (LGA 1718). AMD has confirmed that the new generation of Ryzen 7000 series CPUs will meet consumers in the second half of 2022.

AMD CEO Dr. Su Zifeng said in an interview with PC World that AMD is very satisfied with the development of the AM4 platform and fulfilled its original long-term use commitment. AMD believes that this approach is both for itself and the development community. It is good. With the development of technology, it needs to be replaced in order to adapt to the changes of I/O. The new AM5 platform is similar to the AM4 platform and will become the same long-term platform, but the specific number of years cannot be determined temporarily.

Robert Hallock, AMD's technical marketing director, and Frank Azor, chief architect of game solutions, were also interviewed. When asked why AM5 sockets switched to LGA instead of PGA design, Robert Hallock said that it depends on the pin density required by the technologies supported by next-generation products (such as PCIe 5.0 and DDR5). If the CPU needs more connections on the new platform, then PGA will not be able to meet this requirement.

The Ryzen 7000 series CPU code-named Raphael looks a little strange in appearance. The person in charge of AMD said that this is to place the capacitor on the substrate, so that there is more space at the bottom for placing contacts. Robert Hallock has confirmed that the CPU cooler for the AM4 platform will be compatible with future AM5 platform products. AMD has not yet announced the heat dissipation requirements of the new CPUs, and the details are currently unclear.
